This edition is known as a “Survivors’ Haggadah” and was published on the occasion of the first Passover after liberation by the U.S. Army stationed in Germany after WWII. It features the text by the Lithuanian teacher Yosef D. Sheinson to augment the fresh tragedy of the Holocaust survivors and reinforce the eternal idea of the Exodus. The woodcut by Hungarian artist survivor Miklos Adler alludes to the meager food eaten during the biblical Exodus and in the Nazi concentration camps.
