“Love love today”

Charlotte Mary Mew (1869–1928)
Modernist English poet Charlotte Mew received critical success from her contemporaries—Thomas Hardy praised her as “undoubtedly the best woman poet of our day”—but in part due to her private nature, she is a somewhat obscure figure today. Mew, who was known for her preference for wearing men’s clothing, published her first short story, which was inspired by her volunteer social work, in The Yellow Book before later turning her attention to poetry. This poem, “Love love today,” was never published.
