The first illustrated Indian Haggadah, which was produced lithographically. It served the needs of the Bene Israel (“Children of Israel”), the indigenous Jews of India. The text of Haggadah is printed in Marathi, the language of the Bene Israel, and Hebrew. The illustration, which explains the main components and order of the Passover Seder, was borrowed from the 1695 Amsterdam Haggadah, which in turn was borrowed from the Venetian Haggadah of 1609.
