Seder Hagadah shel Pesaḥ (1695)
Seder Hagadah shel Pesaḥ : ʻim perush yafeh ṿe-tsiyurim naʼim ... ṿe-nosaf ʻal zeh kol ha-masaʻot be-midbar.
Amsterdam, 1695
The lavishly illustrated Amsterdam Haggadah of 1695 was created by proselyte (a convert to Judaism) who adapted the name Abraham ben Jacob. He copied the images from engravings by the Swiss Christian artist Mattaeus Merian. The frontispiece shown here displays figures of Moses and Aaron and six vignettes on biblical themes. The iconography of the Amsterdam edition served as a model for artists who illustrated the Passover Haggadah until the early 1900s.
