William Makepeace Thackeray (1811–1863)
Nine portraits, including Charles Dickens, George Cruikshank, Mr. Brookfield, and Mrs. Brookfield
Pencil with oil on ivory, undated
William Makepeace Thackeray (1811–1863)
Thackeray drew portraits of several of his friends and family, including Charles Dickens, George Cruikshank, Mrs. Brookfield, and Mr. Brookfield—as well as one self-portrait—on these small ivory tablets. He appears to have kept it as a pocket-sized personal keepsake; the “cover” tablet bears his monogram.
