Drag Queens
New York: Queens Publications, 1971[–1983?]
Drag Queens, later renamed Drag, was the brainchild of activist and editor Lee Brewster. Brewster was a member of the Mattachine Society of New York in the 1960s, organizing drag balls and annual trips to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. After Stonewall, Brewster started the Queens Liberation Front, which was devoted to fighting police harassment and prejudices against drag performers, trans, and gender non-conforming people. The magazine covered drag balls in New York City, local politics, and issues that affected the lives of its readers.
