Transvestia
Los Angeles: Chevalier Productions, 1960–1986
Transvestia was a pioneering magazine published by activist, author, and editor Virginia Prince. Transvestia served as a forum for people who at the time identified as crossdressers or transvestites. The magazine created a community for experiences of gender, society, and relationships with a wealth of correspondence and articles by readers. Although Prince and Transvestia in time were found to have great limitations in the way they framed transgender experiences, Prince was a major force in the expansion of thinking on the subject in the mid-twentieth century.
