Letter from Virginia Woolf to Vanessa Bell, 1917
Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
Letter to Vanessa Bell
May 22, 1917
Having acquired their printing press, movable type, and do-it-yourself manual in March 1917, the Woolfs began printing their debut publication in mid-May. It was an absorbing occupation, as Woolf outlines in this letter to her sister, noting she can hardly tear herself away from the project, even to complete her own contribution to Two Stories: “We have just started printing Leonard’s story; I haven’t produced mine yet, but there’s nothing in writing compared with printing.”
