Jubilee Singers.

 

First internationally acclaimed group of Black musicians to attain recognition, and fame. Students from Fisk University organized in 1871 to raise $20,000 for the institution. Introduced "slave songs" to the world, and preserved this music from extinction. In 1871, the nine original Jubilee Singers ensemble toured the United States and Europe. Two years later, the group grew to eleven members. Funds raised by the Jubilee Singers. On Sunday, March 14, 2021,the Fisk Jubilee Singers received a Grammy award 150 years  after the group formation in 1871 for their album "Best Roots Gospel Album" for their 150th anniversary album "Celebrating Fisk.
