Assembly Area in Central Park for the Spring Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam
The Spring Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam created this map and the accompanying text as a guide for the estimated 400,000 people who arrived in New York City on April 15, 1967, for the first large-scale anti-Vietnam War protest march in the United States. The route from Central Park to the United Nations building, where protestors listened to speeches from prominent individuals including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Harry Belafonte, are on one side. A detailed map of the Central Park assembly area for the protest is featured on the other. Accompanying the map is text detailing workshops on community organizing and individual protest, such as draft refusal and tax refusal.
