Charlotte Grimke

Born in 1837 into an activist, intellectual, and wealthy Black abolitionist family in Philadelphia. Contributed to the abolitionist volunteer efforts. Championed the Underground Railroad.  Taught at Epes Grammar School in Salem. Became the first Black Massachusetts teacher of white pupils. Married Grimke, an ordained black Presbyterian minister in 1878. Died in 1914.
