Gordon:
Enslaved on a Louisiana plantation. In April of 1863, escaped to the Union lines near Baton Rouge. Carried onions from the plantation, and rubbed on his body to throw the dogs off-scent. Promoted to sergeant and led an assault at the Siege of Port Hudson. Picture taken during medical examination in 1863. Gordon’s date of birth and death are not certain
