Julie Carlsen: The English writer and artist Max Beerbohm was the premier caricaturist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was fascinated by the concept of celebrity and started poking fun at the famous people around him in his writings and drawings, which eventually made him a celebrity in his own right.

We explore Beerbohm’s relationship with celebrity in this exhibition, Max Beerbohm: The Price of Celebrity, the first major display of his works in nearly half a century. I'm Julie Carlsen, the Assistant Curator at the Library’s Berg Collection of English and American literature. Along with the co-curators Margaret D. Stetz and Mark Samuels Lasner, both from the University of Delaware, I helped organize this exhibition, and I'm excited to share some of my favorite items from it with you in this audio guide.
